It might be fair to say that most business people would prefer as little government intrusion into their businesses (and the overall market) as possible. It is a somewhat natural reaction for many people. However, when it comes to creating new business opportunities, government intervention can be a huge catalyst for growth.
The US automotive industry appears to be on the road to
recovery. After a year of historically bad sales, a massive economic
recession and government bailouts of former OEM titans, profits are now
improving. The outlook is much brighter with Chrysler and General Motors
reemerging from bankruptcy much faster than expected, the economy
showing growth once again and US vehicle sales expected to rise 15% in
2010. So, one would think everything is rosy in Detroit. However, there
may be a major problem on the horizon and another government
intervention needed to solve it.
It would be a vast understatement to say that the past couple years have been particularly challenging for the automotive supply community. Suppliers big and small have been seriously impacted throughout the latest downturn.
The maker of Audi vehicles has been using the slogan "Vorsprung durch Technik" ("a lead through technology") in marketing communications since
1971, though this is not limited to Germany. As the premium segment is forecast to rebound in 2010, so are the production levels of the brand
and its set of relevant European contenders.
This year's North America International Auto Show (NAIAS 2010) continued 2009's "green" theme and built upon it.
